da tanto tempo seguo con sincera partecipazione e condivisione, le battaglie di Articolo 21, per affermare nel nostro paese un principio e un valore fondamentale, quello della libertà, del pluralismo e, soprattutto, della legalità nel settore della comunicazione, tutte battaglie che da sempre conducete non contro qualcuno, ma per affermare principi e valori assoluti che sono quelli ribaditi dalla nostra costituzione.

For some time now I have been following with sincere participation and support the battles of Articolo 21, to establish in our country a principle and a fundamental value, that of liberty, of pluralism and above all of the rule of law in the sector of communications, all battles that you have always been conducting, not against anyone, but to affirm absolute principles and values that are those laid out in our constitution.

Vi scrivo queste poche righe per garantirvi che Italia dei Valori, nel pieno rispetto ovviamente della reciproca autonomia, intende mettersi a servizio del vostro lavoro affinché anche in Italia si realizzi un sistema dell’informazione, soprattutto televisiva, aperto, plurale, perché venga regolato finalmente il conflitto d’interessi, per liberare la Rai e tutte le professionalità che vi lavorano dal giogo della politica, perché, infine, altri e nuovi operatori in tutti i settori dell’informazione possano trovare un mercato disciplinato da regole chiare e certe che consentano loro di crescere e di affermarsi.

I am writing these few lines to tell you that Italia dei Valori, obviously while fully respecting our mutual autonomy, intends putting itself at the service of your work so that even in Italy we can bring about an information system, especially on the TV, that is open, plural, with at last the conflict of interests being regulated, to free the RAI and all the professionalism working there from the yoke of politics, and finally so that other new operators in all information sectors can find a market disciplined by rules that are clear and certain that allow the organisations to grow and to establish themselves.

In altre parole ci piacerebbe che l’Italia abbandonasse quella maglia nera che le
è assegnata dalle principali istituzioni internazionali che si occupano della
libertà dei media e dei mercati , e diventasse così finalmente, anche in questo settore un Paese pienamente europeo.

In other words, we would be pleased if Italy were to abandon that black mesh that is given to it by the main international institutions that are concerned with the freedom of the media and of the markets, and so that it can at last become, even in this sector, a country that is fully European.

Insomma, faccio mia la vostra campagna per la libertà, la legalità e la qualità nel settore dei media.

So basically, I am taking on your campaign for liberty, the rule of law and quality in the sector of the media.

Ed è proprio per questa ragione che Italia dei Valori sarebbe lieta, non solo di ospitare all’interno delle proprie liste (e nell’ambito dell’intesa raggiunta con il Partito Democratico a sostegno della candidatura di Walter Veltroni), con piena indipendenza di pensiero l’amico Giuseppe Giulietti che di questa battaglia è uno dei principali interpreti ma anche, e soprattutto, di proporsi come garante anche per il futuro di questa libertà ed indipendenza che ritengo sia un grande patrimonio della cultura del nostro paese.

And it is for this very reason that Italia dei Valori would be delighted, not only to have within its list (and within the bounds of the agreement reached with the Democratic party in support of Walter Veltroni as a candidate) with full independence of thought, our friend Giuseppe Giulietti who is one of the main activists in this battle but also and above all so that he can put himself forward as a guarantor for the future of this liberty and independence that I believe is a great cultural heritage in our country.
