8 luglio: giorno d'informazione
8 July: Information Day
2 |
It should and must be a demonstration open to anyone who would like to be there, in the knowledge that everyone will be able to feel at home, since it is not necessary to be for or against some or other party because we are not going after any particular party or, for that matter, against any voter.
3 |
It is our hope that many voters, even some of those that perhaps decided to vote for the centre-right, after having considered the election promises that were made, and the government’s performance in these first few weeks of this legislature, will decide to take part in order to help to convince their government to change direction as regards the personal and exploitative abuse of public institutions such as Parliament.
4 |
We know very well that the country is facing many problems and needs to find many solutions, especially as regards families being able to survive on their salaries, and how to kick start our economy, but we believe it is yet another form of fraud to only comment on these problems in order to prevent us talking about other issues, such as justice and information.
5 |
If we are discussing these issues, it is only because, since he has come to power, the person responsible for dealing with the economy, employment and welfare has only been concerned about those issues that are in his own personal interest, rather than in the interests of the Country.
6 |
It makes no sense to fob us off by saying: "with all the problems that the Country is facing, why are you so concerned about Berlusconi?"
7 |
Let’s turn that accusation around: "with all the problems that the Country ids facing, why is Berlusconi only concerned about his own? Let him deal with the Country’s problems and not complain when someone points out to him that his problems shouldn’t even be on the political agenda".
8 |
We are inviting everyone to pick up a few of the investigation folders compiled in recent years and read about some of the deeds and misdeeds of the First and Second Republics, and then try deleting some of the things that that need to be deleted as a result of the law on telephone tapping.
9 |
We would land up with a meaningless book from which we would understand absolutely nothing.
10 |
We demand freedom of information so that everyone will be able to understand what is happening and then be in a position to make a personal assessment of the facts.
11 |
July 8 is not a day of reckoning.
12 |
What we wish to say to all those people who are doing everything in their power to dissuade others from attending, in the hope that very few people will bother to turn up, is that July 8 is not a day of reckoning and that we are not going to be counting those that come and those that don’t so as to decide which side has attracted more bodies.
13 |
It is simply a day like any other on the calendar, a day of pride for Italian citizens, some of whom will participate directly, while others will participate indirectly via the media, and yet others will be sitting back, quietly reflecting on the matter of the exploitative abuse of the institutions.
14 |
It is a day for information and reflection which we are proposing and we are not in any way concerned about numbers, but what does concern us, above all else, is getting into peoples homes in order to help them to think about this important issue of tampering with democracy.
15 |
In addition to all those that are planning to participate, we have also received a lot of spontaneous support from thousands of people who are unable to be there on the day, but who want to indicate their support.
16 |
A tutte queste persone diamo il nostro ringraziamento.
We want to express our most sincere thanks to all of these people.
17 |
We will be taking part in this event, which is only the first of many that will be taking place during the coming months.
18 |
In our opinion, as members of the Italia dei Valori Party, the most important issue is the series of referendums that we will put together just as soon as all of these laws that Berlusconi has initiated become law and are then promulgated.
19 |
A series of referendums that will be submitted in compliance with the law, within the deadlines stipulated by the law itself, but that will certainly see us fighting at the front line.
20 |
This is the undertaking that we wish to make and I sincerely invite everyone in the opposition to stand united and not to press for his or her voters not to attend. It will not serve any purpose.
21 |
We will continue to respect anyone that decides not to come, just as we demand respect for those that do come and that want to display their commitment in this manner.
22 |
This demonstration will not be against some or other individual within the opposition, but rather a demonstration to inform the Country about the error of the Government’s ways, born of the legal needs of a certain individual and not of the need to govern the Country.
