Il mio intervento a Firenze
My speech in Florence
2 |
At the festival of the Democratic Party I received much applause and many ovations.
3 |
The first incredulous reaction of the journalists and the politicians was that I had brought my own fan club with me.
4 |
I’m not used to this sort of behaviour and not even they are used to what was happening.
5 |
No one wants to understand that it is simply a matter of the agreement of the citizens.
6 |
The citizens are tired of this politics. They are just looking for someone who represents them.
7 |
And I, in this moment in history, am representing them.

Bianca Berlinguer: But what happened? Just a few months ago the Democratic Party and Italia dei Valori presented themselves together at the elections and they had made a pact that they would have come together after the vote in common parliamentary groupings. Now, sometimes, the enemy seems to be more Veltroni than Berlusconi.
9 |
Antonio Di Pietro: Certo.
Antonio Di Pietro: Certainly. With this information system that always looks at the tooth pick and never the beam, in the end, the evil of Italy is that Italia dei Valori and the Democratic Party have different attitudes in relation to the concept of Opposition.
10 |
I believe that the evil in the country is the one who is hurting Italy and not the one who is indicating that, with more determination on the part of Italia dei Valori and with substance as in the Democratic Party, this is what the voters will have to weigh up.
11 |
Turning to Moretti, Italia dei Valori is not part of the destructive opposition.
12 |
Destructive is that Opposition that every so often remembers to say "how badly things are going".
13 |
Claudio Sardo: You have chosen to base your autumn campaign on the Lodo Alfano, when there was no necessity from the point of view of timing to collect the signatures now.
14 |
By law you will be obliged to do the referendum in 2010.
15 |
Perché raccogliete adesso le firme?
Why collect the signatures now?
16 |
This points to the fact that you want to base your political activity on this topic, probably for the election campaigns in Abruzzo, and in Trentino and for the local elections.
17 |
Antonio Di Pietro: Permettetemi di dirlo qua dentro.
Antonio Di Pietro: Allow me to say this here.
18 |
It will be done in 2010, but it could have been done in 2009 if together with the form for your petition, there had been one for the Lodo Alfano.
19 |
In a month it would have been possible to do both and I’m sorry that that has not been done.
20 |
Bianca Berlinguer: Il problema del quorum è molto serio.
Bianca Berlinguer: The issue of the quorum is really serious.
21 |
If in the referendum the "no" vote were to win or if the quorum were not to be achieved, would that not be the definitive way of consecrating Berlusconi?
22 |
Is the Lodo Alfano referendum not risking becoming a heavy boomerang, even though it is a battle based on principle?
23 |
Antonio Di Pietro: I believe that when Mussolini was around, if those that were in the resistance had been thinking that they could not reach the quorum, no one would have been a partisan.
24 |
I believe that there are battles of the minority, but above all battles of principle.
25 |
We have to sow in order to reap, no one can think of achieving a result without a commitment.
26 |
Today there’s a climate of mistrust, of bitterness and of incredulity towards politics by the Italian electorate, so much so that we are close to that which we apparently could promise something:"he has got rich and perhaps he’ll get us riches too".
27 |
This is the subliminal message that has been sent out.
28 |
I believe that there are battles of principle that have to be affirmed because slowly but surely, in this uncultivated land that has become jungle, it has to be cleaned up, and a healthy layer of fertilizer of the "rule of law" has to be applied, of equal opportunities, of solidarity.
29 |
I believe that there should be someone who starts, because if no one starts off then no one arrives at the destination.
30 |
On such an important topic as the State based on rights and the rule of law you cannot discuss it on the basis of numbers in the majority or the minority, but in terms of principles and sacrifice.
31 |
I once more repeat the commitment that we want to put into this battle that we want to take forward.
