Sia chiaro, sig. Presidente del Consiglio: noi crediamo che Tremonti faccia bene a stoppare il "mercato delle vacche" tipico delle precedenti Finanziarie, tra cui voglio ricordare, a titolo di esempio, la famigerata "legge Mancia" varata proprio dal Suo precedente Governo, Presidente Berlusconi.

Let it be clear, Signor President of the Council: we believe that Tremonti does well to put a stop to the"cattle market" typical of previous finance bills, among which, I would like to call to mind as an example, the famous "legge Mancia" passed by your previous government, President Berlusconi

Crediamo anche che "la politica del rigore" che Tremonti vuole portare avanti sia in linea di principio una scelta giusta perchè il disavanzo pubblico si affronti non solo con nuove entrate ma anche con tagli alle spese improduttive ed agli sprechi.

We too believe that "the politics of rigour" that Tremonti wants to carry on is in principle a just choice because the public deficit is tackled not just with new money coming in but also with cuts to non-productive spending and other waste.

E di sprechi e privilegi, per non dire di vere e proprie sacche di malaffare e ruberie, la Pubblica Amministrazione, sia centrale che locale, è purtroppo piena (a cominciare dalla spesa sanitaria).

And waste and privileges, not to mention real pockets of bad business and theft, the Public Administration, both central and local is unfortunately full of (starting with health spending).

"Tagli selettivi" ci sarebbero voluti e ci vogliono, dunque, come prima sosteneva anche l’on.le Tabacci per fare in modo che ci guadagni la qualità della spesa pubblica e per ritrovare un maggiore moralità nella gestione delle relative risorse.

"Selective cuts" should have been done and should be done, as was earlier put forward by the Honourable Tabacci so that the quality of public spending is improved and so as to find a greater level of morality in the handling of the related resources.

Dovevate intervenire sui tanti "residui passivi" di cui sono pieni i capitoli di bilancio dei Ministeri e degli enti pubblici: fondi bloccati da anni che potrebbero risollevare il volano del lavoro, dello sviluppo e delle infrastrutture.

You should have taken action on the many "residui passivi" {stuff left from previous years} that the chapters of the balance sheets of the Ministries and the public bodies are full of: funds that have been blocked for years that could remove the veil from the work, from development and from the infrastructure.
