Il Ministro dell'Istruzione Mariastella Gelmini ha deciso di reintrodurre tra le materie scolastiche l'Educazione Civica, 33 ore annue sotto il nome di 'Cittadinanza e Costituzione'.

Sono pienamente convinto della bonta' di questa decisione poiche' i giovani oggi hanno voglia di partecipare alla vita democratica del paese, e' da loro che puo' e deve ripartire la costruzione di uno Stato e delle sue regole.

I firmly believe in the excellence of this decision because today’s youth has a real desire to participate in the democratic life of the country and also because it is up to the youth to give new life to a Country’s constitution and its rules.

Con una punta di ironia credo invece che il difficile sara' spiegare ai ragazzi, finche' governera' questo centrodestra, l'articolo 3 della Costituzione secondo cui tutti i cittadini sono uguali di fronte la legge.

Somewhat ironically, however, I believe the most difficult thing to do, at least for as long as this centre-right government is in power, is to explain article 3 of the Constitution to the youngsters, which states that all citizens shall be equal before the law.

Antonio Di Pietro: E' una cosa buona e giusta. Soprattutto per l'intrinseca valenza educativa di una disciplina che, in definitiva, porta a ragionare sull'etica e sulla vita collettiva.

Antonio Di Pietro: Quasi ignorano la prima parte della Costituzione. Il funzionamento degli organi dello Stato lo conoscono un po', ma sui grandi temi come l'uguaglianza, l'unità del Paese e il rifiuto della guerra, i ragazzi hanno gravi lacune. E pensare che sono proprio questi temi che maggiormente li appassionano.

Antonio Di Pietro:They almost totally ignore the first part of the Constitution. They know a little about the operation of the functions of the State institutions, but as regards the major topics, such as equality, unity within the Country and the rejection of war, there are some major shortcomings in terms of their knowledge. And to think that these are the very topics that they are most passionate about.
