The refuse emergency in the Campania Region is the result of many causes, not all of which can be blamed on politics, however, it is undoubtedly true that those in charge of managing the Region in recent years must bear the political and management accountability.

L'emergenza rifiuti non è nata dal nulla, è cresciuta sotto gli occhi dell'amministrazione pubblica che, in tutta evidenza, non han saputo attuare delle misure efficaci per porre rimedio alla situazione di enorme degrado in cui è precipitata la Campania.

The refuse emergency did not appear from nowhere, rather, it developed under the very noses of the public administration, which was apparently unable to adopt effective measures to remedy this extremely damaging state of degradation in which the Campania Region now finds itself.

As a result of this refuse situation, Italy’s international image has been tarnished and we are now being equated to the world’s developing Countries rather than to the rest of Europe.

Non è soltanto una valutazione di buon senso, in quanto chi non ha risolto il problema in dieci anni difficilmente riuscirà a risolverlo nel prossimo biennio. E' anche una valutazione politica, non si possono chiedere sacrifici ai cittadini se chi li rappresenta, qualunque siano i risultati del suo operato, è sempre e comunque un intoccabile.

This is not simply a common sense assessment, in that those who were unable to resolve the problems during their ten year tenure, are highly unlikely to be able to sort them out within the next two years, but it is also a political assessment, because we cannot ask the citizens to make additional sacrifices as long as those people that resent them remain untouchable in any event and under all circumstances, irrespective of the outcome of their actions.
