It 's necessary that the students
acquire "verb power "! The more verbs they add to their vocabulary
the better!
Here is a game the students
can play:
"Know that verb ! "
The teacher says a verb in
the native language of the class. The group that knows the verb
in English rings the bell and sends someone up to the blackboard
to write the verb. If correct, the group gets 10 points!
The second group has a chance to give the Past Tense of the verb
and also the Past Participle. If correct they get 6 points!
The first group then must put the verb into a sentence. If
correct they get 3 points!
The second group then must put the sentence into a Question
form. If correct they get 4 points!
Before going on to the next verb, both groups must copy from the
blackboard:
To investigate
investigated Have\has investigated
The F.B.I. will investigate the crime.
Will the F.B.I. investigate the crime?
All the verbs used in the
quiz should be listed in their notebooks under the division,
"Know that Verb ".
If neither group knows the verb, they can consult the dictionary
(each group will have one) and the first group to find the verb
gets 10 points!
This is what you may call a "painless " way to learn new verbs.
Here are some suggested verbs to learn.
To snore
to bark
to break
To cough
to argue
to mail
To worry
to avoid
to kidnap
To waste
to recognize to frame
This type of game can be
used in various ways.
Using Adjectives
Using
words about different subjects, ex: shopping, travelling etc.
Writing numbers.
With each variation however, the students have to use the new
word in a sentence and then either write a question in the
Future, or Past or whatever tense the teacher wishes them to
practice.
A Nice Thought
"Always walk though
life as though you have something new to learn, and you will. "
