There are times when we
are more than happy to wish someone well.
Let’s take normal life situations.
Your friend has just started his new job.
“Best of luck on your new job.”
Your sister
has just become engaged to be married.
“Wishing you a world of happiness.”
“Lots of good wishes for you both!”
A cousin of
mine has passed his driving test.
“Good for you! Drive carefully!”
Your aunt is
leaving for a trip to the USA.
“Have a wonderful trip.”
Your uncle is
recuperating from an operation.
“Get back on your feet really soon!”
“Get well as fast as you can!”
Your brother
has finally got his degree in Law.
“Wishing you a lot of success in your career.”
Your mother is
celebrating her birthday.
“A million best wishes and a lot of love!
These are only
a few occasions when a nice wish is obligatory.
We’ll find too that many times it’s necessary to use some words
of encouragement.
“Don’t worry, everything will turn out fine.”
“Look on the bright side.”
“Don’t let small things get you down.”
“Don’t give up hope.”
“I’m sure you’ll make it.”
“Resist, you can do it.”
“There’s always a solution for every problem.”
Student can
simulate situations where a good wish or a word of encouragement
is called for.
Here are some situations:
You failed your driving exam.
You found a beautiful apartment.
You won a scholarship.
You weren’t chosen for the course.
You best friend got married.
You bought a new car.
You didn‘t get the loan.
You don’t have enough money to take that special course.
These all are
a part of life. The students have a great need to know how
these expressions can be used if they want to speak correctly in
English.
