It’s really surprising
how many words in English are so similar to those in Italian.
This can be a “revelation” to your students. They will find
they already know how to translate hundreds of words….without
studying them.
Here is just a short listing.
Adjectives Nouns
Famous student
Comfortable client
Urgent idea
Modern dollar
Natural catalogue
Curious beer
Fragile olive
Rare restaurant
Calm publicity
Original collection
Formal doctor
Private dentist
Complicated park
Timid stomach
Sincere experience
Elegant pilot
Antique documentary
Universal adventure
Fortunate monument
A nice activity would be an
oral comprehension one. The teacher calls out one of the above
vocabulary words and the students have to recognize it. But not
only. They also have to write the word. This is often not as
simply as it seems because many words (as we all too well know!)
are not written as they are pronounced.
This lesson can be continued by the students. I’m sure they
will find many more words to add to this “easy vocabulary”
list. It will certainly give them a chance to see that
translating from English into Italian is not as difficult as it
appears to be.

fault is easy, to do better may be difficult.”
