It’s the last English lesson of the week
and both you and your students need a break.
Now is the time to work on Creative Activities.
Here are just a few suggestions:
1) “Invent a Holiday” was already discussed in a previous
article.
Again they can work in small groups. “Their” holidays can be put
into a
booklet form for everyone to read.
2) “Create your own Hotel”. Using a travel brochure your
students can acquire useful information regarding a hotel and
the services it provides. Then it’s up to them “to make up” a
hotel, giving it a name, telling where it’s located, prices,
room comforts etc. Tack them up on the class bulletin board!!
3) A TV Guide is an aid for the students to learn new
vocabulary words while talking about a film. Start by forming
questions from the information given in the Guide.
Examples:
• Who is starring in the film?
• Where was the film made?
• When was it made?
• Did it get a good rating?
Etc.
Then they can choose a film and write up a dialogue
between two persons
who are discussing the film. Ex:
• Have you ever seen this film?
• When (and where ) did you see it?
• Did you enjoy it?
• Would you like to see it again?
Etc.
4) “Write an Ad”. First have them look at sample ads for
certain products or
appliances. Let them notice the expressions used in the ads as
well as the use of “persuasion”. Then they can choose a product
and create their own Ad. (They are allowed to copy a few ideas!)
I’d start them off with Food Ads. For ex: an Ad for a cereal.
Obviously it’s up to the teacher to suggest activities that are
appropriate for her class level. When the students begin to show
an interest in this type of lesson, I’m sure they’ll come up
with ideas of their own.
A Nice Thought:
“If you are seeking creative ideas, go out walking. Angels
whisper to a man when he goes for a walk”
