"Humor makes patients happy.
A happy patient usually works harder to recover".
A doctor from a
New York State hospital likens laughter to "inner jogging".
He continues by
adding, "Laughter is good for those who are sick and for those
who want to stay well".
Here are some
ideas you can use.
1) Look for humor. Try to see the amusing side of every
situation.
2) Keep a good humor first-aid kit. Stock it with things
that always make you laugh—funny cartoons, jokes, greeting
cards, comedy tapes and movies.
3) Make time for fun. Schedule a 10-minute "humor break"
every day.
4) Encourage laughter in others. Humor is contagious. Tell
a funny story and you may get one back.
5) Laugh with people, not at them!
It is very
important that we learn with our students to laugh at our
mistakes!
Using humor to
help our students relax and overcome stress has a great
advantage in improving the classroom atmosphere , particularly
for students who are worried about making mistakes or nervous
about their speaking abilities.
Some
class activities:
The students
can look up some jokes and collect them for a booklet. They
might need some guidance. The teacher can assign a certain
topic for each group to find jokes about.
Ex. School,
student and teacher jokes
"On
the job" jokes
Jokes
about sports
Jokes regarding children.
For an
advanced group there can be a discussion on humor and
prejudices.
Many jokes are
based on forming stereotypes of people from other countries or
with other religions. Have the students evaluate these jokes,
giving their opinions on them. Perhaps they can find
interesting articles on the subject.
A Nice Thought
"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people."
