How many
problems the students have in distinguishing one question
word from the other!
Here’s
one way to have them practice.
Using
the following list of phrases, make up photocopies for the students to
write the correct question word in the blanks.
In the city……. At 2 p.m……..
By car……….. at the zoo………
A pencil…………. my cousin……..
Mary’s son………. In the country………..
10 men………….. after work………….
On the chair……….. because she’s very
old…………..
Her father………….. a red scarf………………
After dinner……….. because it’s
late…………….
By train …………… in the
afternoon…………….
With a knife……….. an English
book……………..
Another activity can be to write a question for each of the above
phrases.
Ex. Where do you work? In the city.
How do you go to work? By car.
The
QUESTION Box and the VERB box.
Place in the Question Box, cards with the question words.
Who, What, Where, When, Why, How, How many, How much, How long.
Place cards with verbs, in
the Verb Box
To live, to study, to cut, to buy, to go, to visit, to sell,
to prepare, etc.
The students take turns choosing a question card and a verb card, and
then they have to make up a question using both.
Ex. The student chooses the question WHO, and the verb TO
PREPARE.
WHO will PREPARE dinner tonight?
This
can be a written or an oral activity.

Nice Thought

you ask a foolish question, you are a fool for five minutes,
If you never ask a question, you are a fool forever.”
