It’s important for
the students to build a wide vocabulary.
Learning new words
and verbs gives them more possibilities to express themselves.
We can help by
making up lists of opposites.
Let’s start with
Adjectives.
Rich……………….poor
Tall………………..short
Fat…………………thin
Sour……………….sweet
Clean……………..dirty
Loud………………quiet
Wet………………..dry
Light………………dark
Slow……………… fast
Difficult……………easy
Then we can
add Verbs.
To
come………………………to go
To work……………………….to play
To laugh………………………to cry
To talk………………………...to listen
To give………………………..to take
To walk………………………..to run
These can be
studied in “sets”, one word brings to mind another.
One class activity
can be this. Make up photocopy of verbs and adjectives and
leave a space for them insert the proper opposite.
Have them write
short dialogues inserting as many word opposites as possible.
A Nice
“humorous” Thought
There are
tall people and short people
Thin
people and fat people
And everyone
would like to get his hands on the manufacturer who claims:
ONE SIZE
FITS ALL.
