There are many ways of
stimulating conversation but I find that this is a useful and
simple way for the students to see the importance of knowing how
to form questions.
The teacher can hunt up photos of famous people. They can be
people who are famous in the film industry, in politics,
authors, poets, historical figures etc.
These photos are to be mounted on cardboard and the name of the
person written on the back.
Then they can be placed in a box and one student (without
looking!) has to take out one photo card without showing it to
the others.
Now the game is to have the rest of the students (taking turns!)
ask questions to discover the identity of the person. The
student holding the card, must answer each question.
Here are some sample
questions.
Are you a man or woman?
Are you Italian?
What nationality are you?
Are you a person from the past?
Are you married?
Are you a Hollywood star?
Do you wear glasses?
Are you tall or short?
Are you an author?
Are you a comedian?
Do you live in Italy? …The USA….France etc.
Are you a TV star?
Are you young?
Are you old?
Are you world famous, or only famous in Italy?
Of
course, the students can add many more questions, especially if
they think they are getting close to finding out who the mystery
person is!
This is a good way to get them asking questions for finding out
information.
They can also add questions using the Question words, Where,
When, Why, How.
One question is NOT permitted……WHO ARE YOU?
A Nice
Thought
"A
Celebrity is a person who works hard all his life to become
well-known, then wears dark glasses to avoid being recognized!"
