When I was teaching English in
a local high school as a conversation teacher, I started each
lesson with a Nice Thought.
My students enjoyed them and one in particular.
“ Minds are like parachutes , they function only when open!”
I’d like to propose a class project regarding quotations,
especially those by famous people. The students can work
singularly or in pairs. They can choose a topic and look up the
quotations that appeal to them,
Topic examples: Success
Vacations
Flowers
Fate Literature
Teamwork
Gratitude Happiness
Work
Two nice quotes about Computers:
"Never let a computer know you’re in a hurry!"
"Man is still the most extraordinary computer of all." John F. Kennedy
Once they have chosen the quotations they prefer
they can form a small “book” by adding an appropriate cover
photograph or design.
These booklets can be photocopied so each student gets a copy of
their classmates’ work.
If they prefer, they can find quotations by a single famous
personality.
I would suggest, Mark Twain, an outstanding American author and
humorist, and Albert Einstein, the well-known scientist.
Here is just of taste of their quotes:
Mark Twain
"Be careful of reading health books. You
may die of a misprint."
"The more things are forbidden, the more
popular they become."
Albert Einstein
"Imagination is more important than
knowledge."
"Anyone who has never made a mistake
has never tried anything new."
A Nice Thought
"Try to
learn something about everything, and everything about
something."
Thomas H. Huxley
