A "child's room" is his castle. It's his private place to
arrange according to his preferences. Above all it's his place
to dream. As parents we are to respect our children's privacy.
It would be fun if the children could have a say in "decorating"
their room with a bit of the English language!! This can be
done by creating Signs and posters.
Elementary school students can be Sign makers.
Signs for their door.
Do not
disturb!
Private!!!
I'm busy!
Enter at your own

Parents not allowed!
DANGER!!!
The students can also label
objects in their room with cards written in English.
Desk closet door window books photograph calendar
lamp etc…
Older students can create collages. They can
choose a subject (a sport, clothes, a music group…) and then
find photos to glue on a poster board. They can then add English
words that pertain to the subject.
Example: Basketball
I Love Shopping!
Champions! What's on Sale?
My favourite team! I'll take it!!
The best player Do you have my size?
I'm sure the students will come up with phrases
of their own. The teacher can guide them and even advise them to
look up more expressions in Internet.
This is a creative activity that can be shared. If more than one
student chooses the same topic, then they can work together on
the project.
These collage posters can be displayed for a
class "exhibit". The class can invite another English class to
see their work. They can even write an invitation, with the help
of the teacher.

A Nice Thought
"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them
what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."
