Dopo il blog di supporto a tutti gli insegnanti di inglese che lavorano con ragazzi della scuola media, la nostra Elaine si rivolge ora in questa serie speciale a chi insegna ai bambini. Come al solito, le "lezioni" di Elaine sono ricche di idee e di consigli pratici che riusciranno certamente a rendere più gradevole ai bambini l'insegnamento dell'inglese. It’s important to teach children something brand new in every lesson. Something to discover by themselves.

The teacher will prepare objects as well as picture cards for this activity.

Some objects to demonstrate the comparison and superlative.
3 stones 3 books 3 dolls
3 boxes 3 earrings

The children will have to put the objects in the proper order.
Start with a small stone
then they will find a smaller stone
finally, the smallest stone.

The teacher can label each with the words
Small…smaller…the smallest

Next, they can do the same for the 3 size boxes (also using big, bigger, the biggest)
It’s advisable to use picture cards too.
Pictures of …….a tall building , a taller building, the tallest building
                   …….a short clown, a shorter clown, the shortest clow
                   …… a thin man, a thinner man, the thinnest man
                   …… a fat cat, a fatter cat, the fattest cat

The nice part of this activity is that the children have to decide the order of the objects or pictures.

When they have put each in the proper order and placed the word cards next to them, I’d advise having them draw everything. Make sure they fold a paper in three parts before they copy anything.

The teacher can also use the students as examples.
Have three students stand up in front of the room.
One student will place them in order of their height.
Use the adjectives ……tall and short
