Dopo il blog di supporto a tutti gli insegnanti di inglese che lavorano con ragazzi della scuola media, la nostra Elaine si rivolge ora in questa serie speciale a chi insegna ai bambini. Come al solito, le "lezioni" di Elaine sono ricche di idee e di consigli pratici che riusciranno certamente a rendere più gradevole ai bambini l'insegnamento dell'inglese. Children love to bring home the work they do in class. A compliment from their parents and grandparents means a lot to them.
Let’s have them create Picture books.

Let’s start out with a book entitled “A House”.
Each page of the booklet can be previously prepared by the teacher with the names of the rooms.
Kitchen Dining room Living room Bedroom Bathroom
The teacher can first talk about the furniture found in each.
Then the students will draw an appropriate picture for each room.

Another picture book can talk about the Months of the Year.
Again the teacher can prepare the pages. If the class is accustomed to copying from the blackboard, she can let them write the months.
The class with talk about what is particular about each month.
Ex.   January means cold weather and snow.
         February celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day
         March generally means windy days.      Etc.

Still another picture book can talk about the 4 Seasons.
Again use the same procedures as above. The children must participate as much as possible giving ideas for drawing about each season.

It’s also possible to make up a Picture – Word Box.
This is a box where pictures are mounted on cardboard, along with cards with the corresponding words.
It’s advised to have various “sets” of these picture and word cards so they can be used by different groups. The idea of the game is to match the picture with the word card. They can also use these cards as a Memory game. Putting all the cards face down and picking up 2 cards and see if there is a match. If not they are place face down again for the next child to try.
These are all simple activities that stimulate the students. They feel they are playing and at the same time they are learning!!!
