Dopo il blog di supporto a tutti gli insegnanti di inglese che lavorano con ragazzi della scuola media, la nostra Elaine si rivolge ora in questa serie speciale a chi insegna ai bambini. Come al solito, le "lezioni" di Elaine sono ricche di idee e di consigli pratici che riusciranno certamente a rendere più gradevole ai bambini l'insegnamento dell'inglese. An adjective is a word that describes.

Talk to the children about some adjectives , for example: big, small, pretty, cold, hot, nice, friendly, happy, sad, new, old etc.

Write on the blackboard,    a dog                      a man
                                             A small dog            a tall man
                                             A big dog                an old man
                                             A friendly dog.        a happy man

You can give them other examples by first showing them pictures and let them tell you the adjective to use.

Let them make An Adjective Bookmark.

Cut out strips from cardboard and have the students write the word , “ADJECTIVES” ( in RED), on the left side of the bookmark, then write some adjectives using coloured markers. They can also use the other side of the bookmark to write other simple adjectives.

J old

E big tall

C new

T cold

I bad

V small

E sad

S good

During this activity, the students will think of other useful adjectives to add and perhaps make up a second bookmark.

Working with adjectives means having available many magazine photos to stimulate the students.
If they are very young students, they can start by drawing.
Ex. A house a big house a yellow house an old house

They can write the adjective in RED, so it’s clear that the adjectives goes before the noun.

Teaching about adjectives can be very enjoyable. The children will surely come up with, “funny”, “crazy”, “silly” and they will remember them because they are connected to a images.
