Dopo il blog di supporto a tutti gli insegnanti di inglese che lavorano con ragazzi della scuola media, la nostra Elaine si rivolge ora in questa serie speciale a chi insegna ai bambini. Come al solito, le "lezioni" di Elaine sono ricche di idee e di consigli pratici che riusciranno certamente a rendere più gradevole ai bambini l'insegnamento dell'inglese. This lesson is geared for a second or third year elementary school class.
I believe they should work with asking questions as soon as possible.

Let’s work with the questions….”Do you…..?”
The teacher can prepare a chart with the following phrases and an appropriate photo.
                 In the city              in the country        in Rome
                 At home                at school               in an office
                 Alone                    with friends            with the family

Now she can introduce these three verb:
                  To live      to study     to work

On the blackboard the teacher will demonstrate a question.
                  Do you live in the city?
The children working in pairs, can try to write their own questions using a verb and a phrase to end the sentence.
The teacher can check to see if their questions are correct by asking them to say the questions they wrote out loud.
Once this is done she can give them short answers.
                  Yes, I do                  No, I don ‘t

The teacher can give a set of these cards (affirmative answer and negative answer) to each group. Then one child will ask a question and another child will response. They can take turns asking and answering questions.
It’s obvious that the teacher will have check on this oral “conversation”. She will have to move from one group to another.
If the teacher wants to eventually add other verbs,
Ex. To play to go shopping to sing to have dinner

She must explain that they will have to add the following:
                     Everyday
                      Every weekend
                      On Mondays etc.
                      Every Friday etc.

This is to show them that we use questions with “Do you…? When the action is habitual.

The teacher can write these questions on the blackboard.
                      “Do you play with friends every weekend?”
                      “Do you go shopping every Monday?”
                      “Do you play tennis on Tuesdays?

Be sure to check what your students write to be sure there are no errors.

This is a good start in teaching them how to make questions.
You can use this same method with “Does he…..?”
“Does she….?”
“Does it……?”
