Dopo il blog di supporto a tutti gli insegnanti di inglese che lavorano con ragazzi della scuola media, la nostra Elaine si rivolge ora in questa serie speciale a chi insegna ai bambini. Come al solito, le "lezioni" di Elaine sono ricche di idee e di consigli pratici che riusciranno certamente a rendere più gradevole ai bambini l'insegnamento dell'inglese. What child doesn‘t like to “make a face”. The funnier the better!

Hand out cardboard circles so the children can trace around them for “faces.”
Now the teacher can guide them in drawing “funny faces”.
Ex.   Draw 2 small eyes                 Draw 2 big eyes
                  ...a big nose                           ...a very small nose
                  ...2 big ears                            ...2 small ears
                  ...a big mouth                         ...a big mouth
                  ...red hair                                ...black hair
                  ...a blue tie                             ...an orange bow
                  ...a small red hat                    ...a big yellow hat

The teacher should demonstrate these “faces” by drawing them too.
It would be wise before the drawing activity, to review the following words:
                  Big, small, very small,
                  Eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair
                  Tie, bow, hat
                  Red, yellow, blue, orange

Once finished with the “guided” drawings, they can draw a funny face any way they want. Let them tell you what they drew.
“I drew 2 big eyes, a small nose, a big mouth etc.”

Fantasy is what children adore, so let’s make up “Face people”
Trace a circle for a face ( fill in eyes, nose, etc.) , then add stick-like arms and legs!
Again the teacher will show them her Face people on the blackboard.
We can add another instruction.
The teacher will tell them to draw 5 face people that are happy
                                                        4 that are sad
                                                        3 that are sleepy
                                                        2 that are angry
We can add : Colour the happy people pink, the sad people, blue, the sleepy people, yellow, the angry people, red.

A nice ending to their activity would be to have them make a funny face. (literally!) The teacher can try it too!!!
If it’s possible, photograph their funny faces and display them (enlarged using Internet) on the classroom bulletin board, with the title “Our Funny Faces!”
